SUSS MicroTec AG: High Order Entry Again in the Second Quarter

  - High Order Entry of EUR 42.6 Million Again in the Second Quarter
  - Sales in Second Quarter Total EUR 34.4 Million
  - Order Backlog at EUR 92.2 Million at the Half-year

Munich, Germany, August 12, 2008. SUSS MicroTec AG (business address:
Schleissheimer Strasse 90, 85748 Garching; ISIN: DE0007226706), which is
listed in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, was able to
achieve order entry of EUR 42.6 million (Q2 2007: EUR 37.5 million) in the
second quarter of the current 2008 fiscal year. It was thus able to sustain
the momentum of the very favorable order entry growth of the two previous
quarters. However, the trend in Group sales was not entirely satisfactory,
as they remained below the corresponding amount from the previous year (EUR
37.0 million) at EUR 34.4 million. In this context, the order backlog as of
June 30, 2008 rose by 42.3 percent to EUR 92.2 million (June 30, 2007: EUR
64.8 million).

The outlook for the first half-year shows a similarly mixed picture: while
sales of EUR 69.7 million in the first six months of 2008 fell short of the
amount generated in the same period of the previous year (H1 2007: EUR 76.4
million), our most important forward-looking indicator — order entry of EUR
86.5 million — exceeded the previous year’s result (H1 2007: EUR 64.2
million) by 34.7 percent. Once again, the Lithography division accounted
for a substantial share of order growth in the first half of the year.
There was intensified demand for the Lithography division’s Mask Aligner
and Coater product lines, particularly for advanced packaging and, in the
second quarter, MEMS applications.

Gross profit in the first half of the year declined from EUR 34.0 million
in 2007 to EUR 27.0 million in 2008, or by 20.6 percent. Reasons for this
included lower sales, a less favorable product mix, and the weak US dollar,
which together led to lower margins. Against this backdrop, earnings before
interest and taxes (EBIT) declined from EUR 6.1 million in the first half
of 2007 to EUR 0.5 million in the same period of 2008. Earnings after taxes
(EAT) declined in six-month comparison from EUR 5.5 million to EUR 0.3

Cash flow from operating activities rose in the first half of the year from
EUR 0.0 million in 2007 to EUR 1.0 million in 2008. However, the cash flow
from operating activities was not sufficient to cover investments in the
first half of 2008. Investments in tangible and intangible assets totaled
EUR 1.3 million (H1 2007: EUR 0.9 million) and EUR 5.1 million (H1 2007:
EUR 3.2 million), respectively. The latter included not only expenditures,
also made in the previous year, for the Group’s development projects, but
also additional investments in the new SAP ERP system. Free cash flow
excluding acquisitions of securities worth EUR 7.5 million (H1 2007: EUR
0.0 million) totaled EUR -3.9 million in the first half of the year (H1
2007: EUR -4.1 million). In addition to securities available for sale worth
EUR 7.5 million, SUSS MicroTec Group has cash and cash equivalents of EUR
9.9 million (H1 2007: EUR 15.9 million) at its disposal.
